Designing every piece of electric brewing equipment from scratch has enabled SS Brewtech to introduce a new level of process control, flexibility, and performance. Every detail has been carefully thought through and refined.
Every component of the new eControllers was either designed in-house or meticulously selected to enhance the eBrewing experience. The custom extruded 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum housing, CNC machined and coated in a durable black anodized finish, ensures a compact, portable, and functional system. Integrated features such as a carry handle for easy setup and takedown, a tee-slot for alternative mounting options, and a heatsink to keep internal electrical components cool enhance user convenience.
The boil kettle output on the eController is driven by a fully proportional PID controller, eliminating the need for high-speed switching to modulate heat. Instead, voltage modulation through an internal SSVR ensures proportional element wattage. A switch located just above the PID allows users to operate the controller in manual or automatic modes.
In manual mode, users can fine-tune the proportional output on a scale of 0-100% of total element output, ideal for achieving a perfect rolling boil. Alternatively, in automatic mode, the PID algorithm manages the proportional output relative to process temperature, maintaining steady HLT or mash temps. The eController quickly adapts to environmental heat loss characteristics, maintaining high accuracy throughout each brewing process.
The heater button allows users to cycle the element on or off without shutting down the entire unit or adjusting the PID output setting, particularly useful during occasional boil-overs or to monitor process temperature without risking dry firing the element. Additionally, the controller features two accessory outputs, commonly used for pumps but adaptable for various purposes like lighting or phone charging.
Connectivity was a crucial consideration. SS Brewtech opted for the flexibility and familiarity of plug types adaptable to existing customer-supplied kettles or elements, ensuring reliability with UL-approved connector types. For 240VAC main power and element connectors, the common NEMA L6-30 standard, capable of delivering 30 amps of current, was chosen. Accessory connections utilize the NEMA 5-15 standard for standard residential 120VAC outlets, while PT100 temperature probes utilize the durable and user-friendly 3.5mm mini jack connector standard.
